It is now expected that the United States can move forward to inaugurate first ever commercial offshore wind turbines by the end of this year right after securing the investment of $290m by the Deepwater wind on account of off Rhode Island scheme.

After official announcement took place, Alstom showed its interest by duly confirming the supply of around five of its Haliade 6MW offshore wind turbines in this future project, mainly referred as Block Island Wind Farm.

Bloomberg claimed that, Deepwater Wind is eager to initiate the offshore construction in this summer, certainly bring positive consequences to the US, which has tried  hard to build the nation’s first  offshore wind farm.

The project of Cape wind off shore of Massachusetts has also experienced several conflicts with local fishing groups as well as local people for a successful development taken almost 13 years.

On the other hand, the engineering and energy sector’s giants Siemens, Dong Energy and MHI Vestas have mutually agreed to mitigate the cost of handling, installation and others in offshore wind industry for the period of 15 years ahead.

The chairperson of Siemens’ offshore Wind Power and Renewables, Michael Hannibal stated that, “The minimization of cost will be a first priority for the industry.”

He further shared his insights to pump up the lucrative financing in the section of offshore projects independent of subsidies. Inevitably, all of the major stakeholders associated with this segment are held responsible to make equal contribution and efforts.

The study conducted by European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) revealed that, “It is expected to supply the offshore wind farm energy at a standard cost of €90 per MWh by the end of 2030, as compared to €140 per MWh charging these days. This action will help in keeping the balance of cost equal with the energy production from onshore wind turbines.

The report also indicated that, the installation of huge wind turbines will reduce 9% of the cost deduction and at the same time, increase the production and restricting the maintenance demands.
