1.Polyglactin (PGLA) is a sterile absorbable synthetic multifilament suture composed of polyglactin **0 glycoside, a lactide derived from glycolic and lactic acids. Coated with a blend of caprolactone/glycolid copolymer and calcium stearoyl lactylate.

PGLA sutures are available in violet and undyed color from sizes USP6/0 to USP2.

PGLA sutures coated with polycaprolactone and calcium stearate.

Indication:

Surgical Polyglactin is used generally for soft tissue approximation and ligation. Used mainly in opthalmic procedures, gastrointestinal, dental and gynecological. But not used for cardiovascular and neurological procedures.

PGLA should not be sued where longer suture support is needed.

Properties:

PGLA suture has a high initial tensile strength which is retained for up to *0 days.


2.Polyglecaprone*5 (PGCL) is a sterile absorbable synthetic monofilament suture composed of poly glycolide-co-caprolactone. PGCL suture is available in violet and undyed from sizes: usp6/0 to usp2.

Lower incidence of infection and Trauma due to smooth surface
Smooth tissue passage
Excellent Handling properties; flexible and easy to tie.
Indication:
PGCL sutures are indicated for use in superficial soft tissue and ligation including general surgery, plastic surgery, gastrointestinal tract surgery, gynaecology as well as urology.
It is not intended for use in case of cardiovascular, neural and ophthalmic surgeries.
Properties:
PGCL sutures retain *0% of tensile strength by first week, and *0% by the second week

 Indication:

 PGA sutures are indicated for use in general surgery.

It is suitable for the coating of soft tissue and for ligation and also for in ophthalmic, gastrointestinal, pediatric, gynaecology, obstetrics, urology and plastic surgery but not in cardiovascular and neural tissues.

Being absorbable is not a priority when long wound support is required.

Properties:

PGA sutures have a high tensile strength, which is retained up to *8 days. *0% of tensile strength by the 2nd week and *0% by the end of 3rd week.


4.PDO is a sterile absorbable synthetic monofilament suture composed of poly p-dioxanone and       coated with polycaprolactone and calcium stearate.
  PDO suture is available in violet and undyed from sizes usp6/0 to usp2. PDO sutures are found to   be non-pyrogenic.
Characteristics:
Compliance with European Pharmacopoeia
Lower incidence of infection and trauma due to smooth surface
Smooth Tissue Passage
Higher strength compared to Catgut
Indication:
PDO sutures are generally preferred where the combination of an absorbable suture and longer wound support is desired. PDO is generally used in general surgery, including pediatrics, ophthalmic, gastrointestinal tract, gynaecology, plastic, urology and orthopedics surgeries.
It is not used for adult cardiovascular and neural tissues surgery and prosthetic devices.
Properties:
The results of in-vitro studies of PDO sutures indicate that *0% of its original strength remains after 4 weeks and *0% of its original strength remains after 6 weeks.
PDO sutures completes absorption in **7 months.
