•Scope

This specification provides the typical limits and tolerances on chemical, metallurgical and physical quality of Primary Aluminium ingot or sow products, as defined below:

•Chemical Composition

Chemical Composition is specified by the alloy code with defined composition limits as detailed below.  Furnace charges are sampled and analyzed according to methods based on ASTM Standards E716-94 and E1251-94.

* all limits (weight %) are maxima unless specified otherwise

Note that certificates of Analysis will report aluminium content to two decimal places.  Metal will meet iron, silicon and other impurity limits specified for P0406A, P0610A and P1020A grades. Aluminium minimum limit is not specified for P series grades.

•Physical Quality

Ingots or sows shall have good surface finish with no included or adhered refractory coating material.  Surfaces shall be free from adhered corrosion product and contaminants such as powders and hydrocarbons.

•Documentation

On delivery of the ingots or sows we shall provide a manifest with the following items

• Alloy Details
• Cast and lot numbers
• Total number and weight of bundles
• Chemical composition certificate

•Packing and Marking

a. Ingots shall be fastened in bundles of approximately one metric tonne with plastic or steel straps.  Sows are individually packed.  The package shall be suitable for handling by forklift.

b. The cast number shall be marked o each ingot or sow and cast number, lot number and alloy number shall be marked on each bundle with a self-adhesive label.
