Blueberry Extract(Vaccinium uliginosum.L) contains organic acids, vitamins, glycosides, and anthocyanins which have strong antioxidant activity. Blueberry Extract has its bioactivity on suppressing cancer cells, and human colon or colorectal cancers.

Introduction:
Blueberry (Vaccinium uliginosum) is a type of blueberry found in the Chinese Changbai Mountains, also called Bog Bilberry or Northern Bilberry. Blueberry (Vaccinium uliginosum) contains organic acids, vitamins, glycosides, and anthocyanins and has been reported to have antioxidant activity. We extracted Vaccinium uliginosum anthocyanins (AV.uli) to investigate its bioactivity on suppressing cancer cells.
Blueberries have a reputation in Northern Europe due to their benefits for human health, however, one of them, called Vaccinium uliginosum L. (V. uliginosum), has been unnoticed for decades in the Chinese Changbai Mountains. For nutrition, V. uliginosum is rich in vitamin C1 and mineral elements Mn, Zn, Cu as well as Fe. It was used as a kind of food fruit, while little data involving its other utilizations has been reported till now. Since many blueberries contain anthocyanins, which play a very important role in treating human diseases, V. uliginosum is expected to be an inexpensive plant source for producing anthocyanins.
Anthocyanins, anthocyanidins with sugar group, are water-soluble flavonoid pigments and can be subdivided into different sugar-free anthocyanidin aglycones and anthocyanin glycosides. As natural and innocuous additives, they can provide bright colors (blue to purple) in response to pH changes. For therapy purposes, studies have been performed demonstrating the beneficial properties of anthocyanins against diverse human diseases. The extraction protocol and conditions we used were effective for anthocyanin extraction. AV. uli could be a feasible practical research tool and a promising therapeutic source to suppress human colon or colorectal cancers.
