The direct consumption of chia seeds is a good way to benefit from their contribution of omega*3, even after being pressed to produce oil and use as flour, technically calledpartially defatted seed.

The nutritional importance of chia, makes it an ideal ingredient to add to baked products and to an endless number of culinary dishes and drinks. It is used as an ingredient for bread, energy bars, dietary supplements, in poultry diets for egg production and meat and dairy diets, among others. In aqueous media, the seed is wrapped in a polysaccharide slime, which is excellent for digestion and together with the achene it makes a nutritious food.
