Shadow play is one of the ancient dramas in China, which was from west Han dynasty 2,**0 years ago, prospered in Tang and Song dynasties and lasted until now. It is a miracle in China�s folk art. The innovation comes form the silk picture, portrait stone, and portrait brick in Han dynasty and wall picture in Tang and Song temples. It is mostly found in the northern villages and places in Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, etc. there are different schools in the course of shadow plays, like Beijing shadow play, Tangshan shadow play, Shandong shadow play, Shanxi shadow play, Qinghai shadow play, Chenlong shadow play, Ningxia shadow play, Shanxi shadow play, etc. of which shanxi that are most popular regions has two categories, the west and east, each is having special features. The making of shadow play is carved on the thick board, and scalped on donkey or cattle or sheep fur, and then painted with varied colors. The styles seemed as the paper cuttings, but it is stringed with threads on the joints like hands and legs, and it can flexibly do any motions.
