Coconut Peat (Coir Pith)
High-quality, sustainable, and efficient growing medium
Product Description:
Our top-grade coconut peat, also known as coir pith, is a byproduct of the coconut fiber extraction process. It is sourced from our eco-friendly factories in the Philippines and India. Coconut peat is a highly effective growing medium with excellent water retention and air porosity properties, making it ideal for various horticultural and agricultural applications.
During the processing of coconut husk to extract coir fiber, two by-products are generated: "coco fiber" and "coco peat" also referred to as coir dust, coir peat, or coir pith. It is widely used as a growing medium in the horticultural industry and serves as an effective alternative to peat moss. Furthermore, coco peat boasts a high water retention capacity and makes efficient use of fertilizers.
Prior to becoming the finished product, coco peat undergoes washing, sieving, and drying. It is then compressed into different block sizes based on customer specifications and delivered to the respective buyers. Coco peat and husk chips are sometimes mixed in various proportions before processing. The specific type of vegetation and customer needs dictate the final product's conversion. Coco peat, being free from bacteria and fungal spores, is frequently recommended as a substitute for peat moss in horticulture. Unlike the adverse environmental impacts of peat extraction, coco peat does not contribute to environmental degradation.
Coco peat can contain small amounts of macronutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, as well as micronutrients like iron, manganese, zinc, and copper. These nutrients are present in the form of organic compounds, such as amino acids and chelates, which can slowly release nutrients over time as they decompose. However, the amount of nutrients in coco peat can vary depending on factors like the source of the coconuts, the processing method, and the age of the material.
Coconut peat is available in blocks, bales, discs, and grow bags, and it boasts an impressive water retention rate and air porosity, enabling plants to grow more rapidly.
