COCO
PEAT:
Coco peat also known as coir
pith. coir fibre pith, coir dust, or simply coir, is
made from coconut husks, which is one of the
byproducts of coconut. Coir waste from coir fiber industries
is washed, heat-treated, screened and graded before being processed
into coco peat products of various granularity and denseness, which
are then used for horticultural and agricultural applications and
as industrial absorbent. These are usually shipped in the
form of compressed bales, briquettes, slabs or
discs.
Common uses of coco peat
include: As a substitute for peat, because it is free of
bacteria and most fungal spores, and is sustainably
produced without the environmental damage caused by peat
mining. Mixed with sand, compost and fertilizer to make good
quality potting soil. Coco peat generally has an acidity in the
range of pH - 5.5 to 6.5. It is a little on the acidic side for
some plants, but many popular plants can tolerate this pH
range.
COIR FIBER AND
ROPES:
Ropes made from coconut fibre have
been in use from ancient times. Indian navigators who sailed the
seas to Malaya, Java, China, and the Gulf of Arabia centuries ago
used coir for their ship ropes.
Brown fibre is obtained by
harvesting fully mature coconuts when the nutritious layer
surrounding the seed is ready to be processed
into copra and desiccated coconut. The fibrous husks are
soaked in pits or in nets in a slow-moving body of water to swell
and soften the fibres. The long bristle fibres are separated from
the shorter mattress fibres underneath the skin of the nut, a
process known as wet-milling. The mattress fibres are sifted to
remove dirt and other rubbish, dried in the sun and packed into
bales.
TENDER
COCONUT:
Coconut
water is the clear liquid inside
young green coconuts . Tender coconuts for drinking
are served fresh, chilled or packaged in many places. They are
often sold by street vendors who cut them open with
machetes or similar implements in front of customers. Processed
coconut water for retail can be found in ordinary cans, tetra
paks, or plastic bottles. Coconut water has long been a
popular drink in the tropical countries where it is
available fresh, canned, or bottled.
COCONUT:
The coconut tree is
a member of the palm family. The term coconut can
refer to the entire coconut palm, the seed, or
the fruit, which, botanically, is a drupe, not
a nut. The coconut is known for its great versatility as seen
in the many uses of its different parts and found throughout the
tropics and subtropics. Coconuts are part of the daily diets of
many people. Coconuts are different from any other fruits because
they contain a large quantity of "water" and when immature they are
known as tender-nuts or jelly-nuts and may be harvested for
drinking. When mature, they still contain some water and can be
used as seednuts or processed to give oil from the kernel, charcoal
from the hard shell and coir from the fibrous husk.
