Concrete Joints Rubber Hydrophilic Swellable Bentonite Waterstop
Hydrophilic waterstop is an absorbent strip used to seal and waterproof concrete joints. We have two kinds of hydrophilic waterstop, hydrophilic bentonite waterstop and, hydrophilic rubber waterstop. Hydrophilic bentonite waterstop is commonly made of natural sodium bentonite clay and synthetic rubber, and the hydrophilic rubber waterstop is made of polymer expansion rubber. Both the synthetic rubber/polymer expansion rubber and the bentonite expand in the joint when exposed to moisture. It is a new type of waterproof material, water stop, waterproof effect is more reliable than ordinary rubber. In contact with water the waterstop strip will swell approximately **0%*6*0 % of its original dry volume, the expansive clay mass will seal the cracks and small voids in the joint.
 
Hydrophilic or "water-loving" waterstops are strips of rubber, modified with a hydrophilic agent (such as bentonite) so they swell in the presence of moisture to effectively seal concrete construction joints. Hydrophilic strip applied waterstops should not be used in contraction or expansion joints per the instructions of most commercial manufacturers. Hydrophilic waterstops can only be effective if they are allowed to swell; therefore, water must be present to activate the hydrophilic agent. Initial leaking is possible until the waterstop expands to seal the joint. Hydrophilic waterstops are also available as moulded plugs and rings to create a seal around formwork spacers, center pens and tie rods.
