Ukraine became the largest producer and exporter of sunflower oil
in the world with a ***0 production of around 3.3 million tonnes
for export over *0% of this volume.
Production of sunflower oil in Ukraine began in the mid *9th
century. Environmental conditions and terrain features can indeed
sunflower cultivation throughout the territory of Ukraine.
The global market for sunflower oil is currently growing to
offset the decline in the supply of rapeseed. In this market,
Ukraine is competing with long established leaders - Argentina
and Russia. As Russia increases its production of sunflower seeds
creating the potential to boost its production of sunflower oil,
Argentina must face continual problems due to drought and
confrontation between farmers and local government.
"The country currently produces the same volume of sunflower oil
as the entire Soviet Union," said the Director of the Association
of Ukrainian producers of vegetable oils Ukroilprom, Stepan
Kapshuk.
The Ukrainian market of sunflower oil has continuously developed
this year. Compared to first quarter ***0, the volume of
Ukrainian sunflower oil exported during the first three months of
***1 increased *0%.
The largest consumer of Ukrainian sunflower oil is India - the
country buys about a quarter of annual exports of Ukrainian
sunflower oil, according Ukragroconsult. Moreover, Ukraine is
exporting large volumes of sunflower oil in Turkey, Egypt,
Netherlands, Russia, Italy, Spain, Belarus, Saudi Arabia and
Georgia.
