Dried Raisins

Raisins are grapes that have been dried. The dehydration process, practiced since time immemorial, reduces the moisture content either naturally in the heat of the sun or, more recently, by artificial methods.



Raisin types depend on the type of grape used. Unlike the large producer countries, Spain mostly produces raisins from Muscatel grapes. The largest production area is in the province of Mlaga in Andalusia, giving rise to the world-famous Malaga raisins. These are large, high-quality, sweet raisins with seeds.



Raisins are very sweet because of their high sugar content. They are usually eaten raw as snacks, often in combination with nuts, or they can be used in all sorts of dishes. Raisins were a favorite in the time of Muslim Spain, as an essential ingredient in its cuisine.
