FIV Ab + FeLV Ag Combined Test

Infection with the feline leukemogenic virus (FeLV) causes very variable and poorly specific symptoms. The differential diagnosis includes FIV and feline coronavirus, which makes laboratory testing essential.Moreover, the clinical phase is preceded by a more or less long asymptomatic phase. This imposes the recourse to the biological examinations within the framework of the differential diagnosis.
Regular screening of cats infected with FeLV is considered as the best means of fighting the virus. Depending on the regions affected, studies show prevalences of 1 to *0%.
The detection of soluble virable antigens makes it possible to determine an animal's status even when there is a very low viral load in the blood (early infection, transient viremia,sequestrated infection).  An animal that is positive for FeLV is more likely to contract FIP. Serological testing for feline coronavirus is therefore advisable to detect carriers .In kittens under 6 months of age and born from an infected queen, the persistence of colostral antibodies may give a positive result even though the kitten is free from the disease. The FIV status of the kitten should be tested after 6 months of age. If the result is positive, a second control should be undertaken *0 days later.
