Fullerenes are a new type of hollow molecular structure discovered by American scientists Smalley and Curl and British scientist Kroto in ***5 (Kroto H W et al., ***5). It is an allotrope of carbon. Any substance consisting of five-membered rings and six-membered rings of carbon, which satisfies the rule of independent five-membered rings and exists in a spherical or elliptical cage structure, can be called fullerene. Fullerenes with cage structure can be regarded as three-dimensional aromatic compounds, and their unique structure endows them with unique physical and chemical properties, which can have far-reaching influence on chemistry, physics, materials and other scientific fields, especially in batteries, superconductivity, magnetism, optics, catalytic materials and biomedicine.
