Product Description

STONE-AGE FIGURINES In ***2 a cache of unusual stones washed out of an Illinois cornfield. Spear points found with them suggest they were buried in the Stone-Age *1,**0 years ago! These stones stack to make meaning figurines some extinct animals, others of human forms such as Shamans and Venuses. We also have a fine selection of arrowheads and Paleo-Indian tools from this recovery site. Please review this unusual and rare collection at our website. Harvest Woman The stones of this red, yellow and green (Salsa) chalcedony crop fertility figurine have been heavily handled. This idol may have been used to appease the spirits to bring forth good harvest. Though all 3 stones have all 3 colors, the color proportions vary: The reddish rootstalk-shaped hips, the angle of the green foliage-like breasts, and the yellowish-white kernel-shaped head, all suggests the clan may have harvested or collected early corn (teosinte). Wait a minute. Corn cultivation isnt supposed to happen until the Mississippian Indian period 1,**0 years ago. But after *0 years looking, we haven't found Mississippian type points nearby. In any case, early autumn colors must have signaled the clan to migrate south. The head also resembles a shelled hazelnut, which still grows around here. Salsa chalcedony w original "sheen" patina, 3 parts. 5.3h; **2 gm Provenance: Spoon River bottomland, Knox County, Illinois. Site location ***1.D All Figurines are free-standing
