Hand made IKAT fabrics are one of the most interesting part of Indian Arts and Crafts. Today Ikats have become very popular all over the world. Indian Ikat differ in variety of patterns. In their ornament geometrical, floral and household objects were combined: ovals, shrubs, trees, Jeweller ornaments, etc. Ikat serve as the proof of unsurpassed skill of Indian people and reflect Indian traditions and culture. There are very many handmade articles made of Ikat. Ikat process is best described as tie-dyeing the yarn before it goes on the loom where it is woven together with a single color to make it into cloth. For dip-dyeing, I dip small areas of the warp yarns into the dye without tieing them. This allows more subtle overlaps of color than the Ikat. Both processes are completed before the weaving starts.
