Working in conjunction with some of the world’s premier companies involved in fiber optic security and oceanography, Linden Photonics has developed a variant of its STFOC. This fiber optic cable combines all of the best features of the standard STFOC, including extreme tensile strength, crush proof and barrier properties while adding a secondary layer which renders the cable virtually unkinkable. While security has always been a high priority for many locations, it has become increasingly so in recent years. Remote installation of fiber optic cable is employed for border security around critical facilities such as airports, power plants and nuclear facilities among others. As well, fiber optics are deployed in harbors to protect our valuable ports of entry. These installations are expensive, difficult and often done remotely. If a cable loops back on itself and creates a kink, the fiber can break and this results in expensive down time. Linden has modified our STFOC to include a resilient coating which allows the basic structure of the STFOC to remain intact while improving both on its flexibility and providing a cable which is virtually impossible to kink.
