High-intensity blue-light (**5 to **0 nm) is FDA approved for treating acne. Acne develops from an abnormal amount of bacteria, mainly Propionibacterium acnes (P. acne), which can cause inflammatory conditions. The P. acnes produce an organic compound, Porphyrin. When exposed to blue light, Porphyrin generates singlet oxygen that may kill the bacteria responsible for acnes.
