Rack End is a direct connection between the rack bar and the tie rods. It transfer the force to the left and right wheels. Rack End, or called axial joints are used only in rack-and-pinion steering systems and must guarantee large angular travels of as much as *0° in mostly short steering tie rods. To ensure and adequate overlap between ball socket and housing collar, ball diameters >*3mm must be provided. This configuration allows maximum axial tension forces of *5Kn. In practice, three different types of steering rack ends design are used at casing with internal thread for bolting onto the steering tie rod, and ball stud pin with external thread to bolt into the steering rack, casing with threaded stud pin for bolting into the steering rack, and extruded ball at the rack ends and casing with threaded bore for bolting onto the steering rack, and extruded ball at the car rack ends.
