Steel structure buildings are a building system that uses
steel as the main load-bearing components. The load-bearing
structure is composed of components such as beams, columns,
trusses, etc., which are made of steel sections and steel
plates. It has the advantages of light self-weight, high
strength, good seismic performance, fast construction speed,
high industrialization level, and large spatial span. Steel
structure buildings are commonly used in large factories,
bridges, sports venues, and super high-rise buildings, etc.
However, their corrosion resistance and fire resistance are
poor, and they need to be treated for rust prevention and
fire protection, as well as regular maintenance.
Main components
Load-bearing structure: Mainly composed of steel sections
(such as H-shaped steel, I-shaped steel, channel steel, angle
steel) and steel plates, forming beams, columns, trusses,
etc.
Connection method: Components are usually connected by
welding, bolts, or rivets.
Enclosure structure: Together with the roof, floor, and
walls, it forms a complete building. Type
Steel structure buildings:: The load-bearing structure is
composed of components such as hot-rolled steel sections
(such as I-beams, H-beams, channel sections, angle sections)
and steel pipes.
Light steel structure buildings:: The load-bearing structure
is made of cold-rolled thin-walled steel sections (such as
L-shaped, U-shaped, Z-shaped and tubular components) and
small-sized steel.
Prefabricated steel structure:: The components are
prefabricated in the factory and then quickly assembled on
site.
Advantages
High strength, light self-weight:: The strength of steel is
high, but its self-weight is relatively light, making it
suitable for building large-span spaces.
Good seismic resistance:: Steel structures have good
plasticity and toughness, so their seismic performance is
excellent.
Fast construction speed:: Components can be prefabricated in
the factory and then installed on site, significantly
shortening the construction period.
High degree of industrialization:: The production and
construction processes are highly standardized and
industrialized.
Green and environmentally friendly:: Steel can be recycled
and reused, reducing construction waste and conforming to the
concept of green buildings.
Disadvantages
Poor corrosion resistance:: Steel is prone to rust and
requires anti-rust treatment, such as rust removal,
galvanization or coating.
Poor fire resistance:: Steel has poor fire resistance and
will deform and fail under high temperatures, requiring fire
protection treatment.
Requires regular maintenance:: Steel structure buildings
require regular maintenance to extend their service life.
