Thrust ball bearings consist of two precision chrome steel washers (ring) and a ball complement spaced by bronze retainer. They can be supplied with or without radius ball grooves in the rings. Thrust bearings are used under purely axial loads. They are commonly used in automotive, marine, and aerospace applicants.
Single row Thrust ball bearings can accommodate axial loads in one direction and thus locate a shaft axially in one direction. Double direction thrust ball bearings can accommodate axial loads acting in both directions and can thus serve to axially locate a shaft in both directions. Both of single row or double row thrust bearings must not be subjected to any radial load.
