~Tungsten heavy alloy are made with a high tungsten content and low amounts of Ni, Fe or Ni, Cu. Some tungsten alloy is added Co, Mo or Cr etc. The density of tungsten heavy alloy could be as high as *6.8~*8.8g/cc.
Tungsten heavy alloy is completely lead-free. It offers a number of advantages as a radiation shielding material for clinical and industrial use:
1. Good corrosion resistance under ambient conditions
2. Low toxicity and completely lead-free
3. Superior radiation attenuation compared to lead
4. Damage resistant due to much higher mechanical properties than lead
5. Easily machined into complex geometries
6. Hardness, strength, and ductility make for good durability
Owing to the excellent properties, tungsten heavy alloy shield is used in the following applications including shields for radiography, nuclear power plant shielding, nuclear medicine, X-ray collimators and area shielding, isotope production, transport and containment, oncology isotopic and accelerator based platforms, CT detectors, such as PET syringe shield, vial shield, beam stop, isotope container, FDG container, Technetium generator and multi-leaf collimator, tungsten heavy alloy sheet or tungsten heavy alloy flat etc.
