These systems are designed for taking **0mm diameter undisturbed
samples in clay and soft formations. The sample tubes are each *8"
long and are driven into the ground with a sliding hammer or other
arrangement, via a bell housing incorporating an air release
valve.
Two systems are currently available. The Standard System utilises
aluminum sample tubes, with a cutting shoe and optional
corecatcher.
The plastic Liner System utilises plastic liners to retain the
sample. The plastic liner is retained within a steel tube. Although
this system reduces the overall cost of taking samples, the samples
produces suffer greater disturbance due to the higher area ratio
compared with the standard system.
