Redefining Clean Renewable Energy By Turning Waste into Energy via Gasification! Gasification is a flexible, reliable, and clean energy technology that can turn a variety of low-value feedstocks and waste into high-value products. Gasification is a manufacturing process that converts any material containing carbon, such as tires, plastics, asphalt, petroleum coke (petcoke), Municipal Waste (Garbage) or other biomass such as wood or animal waste—into synthesis gas (Symgas). Symgas can power engines or boilers as a substitute for natural gas. It can be further processed to manufacture liquid fuels or hydrogen. An electric power plant could use this process to gasify MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) instead of using high-priced natural gas, thereby reducing its operating costs and at the same time reduce the environmental impact and overall maintenance costs of local landfills. Gasification offers wide fuel flexibility. A gasification plant can vary the mix of solid feedstocks to meet the needs of the local community throughout the year and can produce a number of high-value products at the same time The ability to produce a number of high-value products at the same time (polygeneration) also helps a facility offset its capital and operating costs by capitalizing on the opportunities of an ever changing market. Because Symgas is cleaned before combustion, gasification plants produce significantly fewer quantities of criteria air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) and therefore requires less back-end pollution control equipment. Carbon dioxide (CO2) can be captured in the same Low cost efficient way. This provides a significant economic and environmental benefit in a carbon-constrained world. Local projects can be scaled down (½ megawatt / 5mmBTU’s to *0 Megawatts **0mmBTU’s) and placed close to feedstock sources, reducing transportation costs and environmental impact associated with large central processing centers.
