From a custodial perspective, paper archives consist of two main parts - the paper and the writing on the paper. The main raw material is paper plant cellulose. Under general conditions, paper plant cellulose is stable in nature, not easy to hydrolyze, not easy to physical and chemical changes, conducive to long-term preservation. But in the light, heat, humidity, acid, enzymes and oxidants, the molecular chain of cellulose will break, the degree of polymerization is reduced, resulting in a decline in the mechanical strength of the paper, the paper is easy to yellow and brittle, not conducive to long-term preservation. Especially early archives, in view of the backward level of papermaking, paper performance is generally poor, vulnerable to mold, insects, the long-term preservation of archives poses a serious threat.
