Propolis is a
tan, sometimes yellow, gray or turquoise viscous solid
with a characteristic aromatic odor and a bitter taste.
Not easily soluble in water but soluble in ethanol,
acetone, benzene and sodium hydroxide solution. It
becomes hard and brittle at low temperature and melts
at *5°C. Due to the different plant species, seasons
and regions collected by bees, the composition of
propolis is often inconsistent, generally containing
about *5% resin, *0% beeswax, *0% aromatic volatile oil
and 5% pollen inclusions.

of flavonoids, phenols, lactones, coumarins, aldehydes,
ketones, steroids and other compounds have been isolated
from propolis extract, as well as vitamins, amino acids,
enzymes and various trace elements.
