The use of the IgM/IgA-kits, having a combined conjugate (IgM/IgA), allows to detect boths IgM and IgA reactivities during a longer period than detecting IgM- or IgA- separately, due to their overlapping appearance in early stage of infection (see graphic below). In this way it is possible to obtain test results relevant to the early phase of infection by using initially only one test. Further determination of IgG antibodies and a separate determination of IgM- and IgA antibodies may be helpful to better assess the stage of infection where indicated.
