We all know that transfer activities are done daily by wheelchair
users, caregivers, therapists and nursing staff. Getting into
and out our bed can be a daunting task. With the latest
invention from Nanyang Polytechnic, the wheelchair fitted with a
retractable rear wheel facilitates user transfer without lifting
and turning thereby preventing unwanted injuries. The new
award design adds a new dimension to the manual wheelchair.
Currently, the rear wheel is obstructing placement of transfer
board which is often used during lateral transfer. With the
wheel retracted, the wide unobstructed seat will allow for easier
positioning of the transfer board and increase stability during
transfer. The wheelchair can be fitted with Left or Right
Retractable Wheel or both Left and Right.
