Description

Carbon fiber is produced from polyacrylonitril precursor commonly known as PAN. In pyrolysis ovens and nitrogen rich environments PAN is carbonized. During the process hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen molecules are eliminated from Pan leaving behind *8% Carbon. Carbonization temp. determines the strength of fiber. High strength (HS) Carbon fibers with low modulus ******0GPa are obtained at *********0C. Graphitization at *********0C results in intermediate modulus ******0GPa fibers. Above *********0C high modulus ******0GPa Carbon fiber is obtained.
