Kiln dried crabwood is available for export from Guyana. Crabwood (Andiroba) is a moderate hardwood that is both durable and fire resistant. Comparable in strength to European Beech. Uses: Suitable for general carpentry, make beautiful furniture and Cabinet work, turnery and interior joinery. Appearance: Heartwood is pale pink to rich red-brown when freshly sawn and darkens to a uniform dull reddish-brown. Sapwood is pale brown or oatmeal colored. This wood resembles a plain mahogany in appearance & is often used as a substitute for it. It is for this reason that it is sometimes referred to as Guyana Mahogany.
