Purpleheart is a hardwood of high durability and resistant to decay, termites and fire. The heartwood is durable & resistant to preservative treatment while the sapwood is permeable. Uses: Very high strength, durable wood. Suitable for heavy outdoor construction, good for flooring & furniture and has even been used in chemical plants for vats, filter press plates and frames. Appearance: Dull brown when freshly cut, it oxidizes rapidly to violet purple on exposure to light, gradually tones down to a dark purplish-brown. Beautiful when polished.
