Bismuth Germanate (Bi4Ge3O*2) commonly abbreviated as BGO, is a crystal scintillator material that can emit green fluorescent light with a peak wavelength of **0nm, colorless, transparent and insoluable in water .

Production of BGO scintillator

The Bridgman has been using for the production of BGO scintillator crystal since the founding of EPIC Crystal, the maximum dimensions included *6mm x **0mm cylinder and *0mm x *0mm x **0mm rectangular shape, and EPIC owned abundant experience with special further treatment of BGO scintillator crystal, like drilling holes and getting a side flat to be coupled with read out systems(PMTs), reflector coating, wrapping and matrix designing.

 

Main applications of BGO scintillator

Scintillation BGO scintillator crystal has been proven to be reliable in Oil&Gas wireline logging for many years, and the mineral wireline logging, where the NaI tl scintillator crystal has been universally used, could be another direction, as the lacked of spectrum resolution could be much compensated by its high photon fraction for high energy gamma ray naturally occurring from Uranium and Thorium.

And the nuclear medicine, typically the Computer Tomography(CT), also the high energy physics like the L3 experiment in European Organisation for Nuclear Research(CERN), in which around *2 tons BGO scintillator crystal were used.
