Application:  Used as a raw material in the manufacturing of soaps, detergents, textiles and paper.  Also, in water softening and treatment, drilling mud in oil field, refining petroleum products, in sanitation, hygiene products. In food and drug industry, it is used as acidity regulator, alkali, impregnant’s pigment.

Potential Acute Health Effects:  Very hazardous in case of skin contact (corrosive, irritant, permeating), of eye contact (irritant, corrosive), of ingestion, of inhalation. The amount of tissue damage depends on length of contact. Eye contact can result in corneal damage or blindness.  Skin contact can produce inflammation and blistering. Inhalation of dust will produce irritation to gastro-intestinal or respiratory tract, characterized by burning, sneezing and coughing. Severe over-exposure can produce lung damage, choking, unconsciousness or death. Inflammation of the eye is characterized by redness, watering, and itching. Skin inflammation is characterized by itching, scaling, reddening, or occasionally blistering.

Personal Protection:  Suggested to wear full suit, splash goggles, dust respirator, boots and gloves. Consult a specialist BEFORE handling this product.  In case of eyes contacted, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least *5 minutes. Cold water may be used. Get medical attention immediately. In case of skin contacted, immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least *5 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Cover the irritated skin with an emollient. Cold water may be used. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse. Get medical attention immediately.

Transportation and Storage: Caustic soda beads must be stored in steel drum or other well-sealed packages, thickness of packaging must be more than 0.5 mm, compression resistance of packaging must more than 0.5Pa. All packaging must be printed “Corrosive” symbol.  Keep container tightly closed and in a cool, well-ventilated area. Never add water to this product. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Keep away from incompatibles such as oxidizers, reducing agents, metals, acids, alkalis, moisture. In case of burning, use water, sand or fire extinguisher to put out fire, however, please pay attention to the corrosive liquid when castic soda beads are solved in water.
