Hexogen
 

1. Brief Introduction of Hexogen 
Cyclotrimethylene trinitramine, also known as Hexogen, RDX,is a colorless 
crystalline, insoluble in water,slightly soluble in ether and ethanol. Though its 
chemical property is relatively stable, RDX still might cause combustion and 
explosion meeting with open flame, high temperature, vibration, abrasion. RDX is high explosive with extremely powerful explosive force, which is 1.5 times more 
violent than TNT.

2. Physical and Chemical Property of Hexogen
English name: Cyclotrimethylene trinitramine; Hexogen; RDX
Molecular formula: C3H6N6O6
Molecular weight: 222.12
No. CAS: 121-82-4

RDX is a white crystalline solid, insoluble in water, slightly soluble in benzene, 
acetone and ethyl ether, aromatic. Its melting point is 205.5 ℃, while boiling point 234℃.RDX can combust completely in the air,and gives bright flame. Burning in quantity in sealed condition, it will change from combustion to detonation.

3. Application of Hexogen
Common RDX, disposed by paraffin passivation, appears dark red. Passivated 
RDX is widely used for detonator, detonating cord , or making initiating explosive etc.
