grosvenerii(Swingle) C. Jeffrey]) is a unique economic
& medicinal plant in China. It is native in the north of
Guangxi province, it has been regarded as the formal medicine
for more than **0 years, being used traditionally to eliminate
fever and relieve cough. In clinic it can treat breath system
and digestive system diseases such as hypertension,
Tuberculosis and asthma. Recent research indicated that the
triterpene component mogrosides is the main effective

2 Botany
Latin Name: Siraitia grosvenorii(swingle)C. Jeffrey ex
Lu et Z.Y. zhang [momordica grosvenori swingle; Thladiantha
grosvenerii(Swingle) C. Jeffrey])
Shape: Perennial
vine, with length 2—5m, slender stem in dark purple
color. Leaves grow for intersection, along with leafstalk
2—7cm long; leaf blade presenting oval shape in membrane,
length 8—*5cm and width 3.5—*2cm, covered by pale hairs on both
sides. The fruit is ellipse or round, with soft hairs, and
the seed in light yellow color. Florescence: June to
August; Fruit period: August to October. The fruit is
4.5—8.5cm in length and 3.5—6cm in diameter, with a surface in
brown or ochre color. It’s very fragile in nature, and
with thin skin as well. The seed presents oblate, with
1.5cm in length and *2cm in width, from faint red to brown
red.
Cultivation:.Strict temperature required, fond of warm
condition, difference in temperature for day & night,
afraid of frost, non-resistance to high temperature; It begins
to sprout & bud when cultivating with temperature rising to

resistant, and the full - grown plant is fond of light, but
avoiding strong sunshine due to being plant for short sunshine.
Better to be in direct sunshine for 7—8 hours in daytime,

the growth period, but avoiding deep water. Good drainage is

harvest: In general, it becomes
