Phenalkamines are an excellent option for epoxy systems that need very fast cure even at low temperatures, excellent water and salt water resistance, outstanding corrosion protection, surface tolerance, good chemical and mechanical properties, and excellent adhesion to even poorly prepared surfaces. These are a unique types of hardener that process the rapid curing characteristics of aliphatic polyamines while also exhibiting the non-volatility and low order of toxicity associated with polyamides.

The manniach reaction of Cardanol , formaldehyde and certain amines is called a Phenalkamine. Phenalkamine share some similar advantages to other Mannich base curing agents, such as: extremely fast cure , low temperature cure (even below 0 degree C) good chemicals resistance , good surface appearance, good moisture tolerance and non-blushing properties.

Phenalkamines also have very good pot life, good flexibility, surface tolerance and excellent salt water resistance. 

Phenalkamines allow formulators to use the same formula year round (less inventory), to have quick return to service (cost savings), and to have long-lasting high performance coatings (durability). All of that with a renewable solution!
