Shea nuts are ellipsoid berry weighing *0 to *0
g. They are naturally green and turn green yellowish to brown when
they mature. It is generally grown in the West and Central Africa
and more especially in the semiarid Sahel.
Raw shea nuts are processed and turned into
butter used for cosmetics purposes and foodstuffs as they contain
rich natural vitamins and fatty acids. They have moisturizing and
anti-inflammatory properties. Shea nuts are also processed and
turned into shea oil. In shea oil, the amount of stearic acid,
an essential fatty acid, which gives shea butter its thick
consistency, is much lower. Shea oil is a great moisturizer for
hair and skin.
