Thermal paste, also known as thermal grease, thermal oil , thermal silica  in some areas . thermal paste is used to fill the gap between the heating plate and the heat sink material, this material is also known as thermal interface materials. Its role is to heat conduction to the heat sink block that comes out of the heat, its temperature maintained at a stable level in order to prevent damage due to poor heat dissipation and long life.
 
In applications of heat and thermal conductivity, , there will be a gap appeared when two planes contact with each other, even though the surface is very smooth, these gaps in the air are a poor conductor of heat, it will hinder the conduction of heat to the heat sink. The thermal grease is a way to fill in these gaps, this is more rapid and smooth in the heat conduction
