Petrolatum is obtained by
dewaxing heavy lubricating-oil stocks. It has a melting-point range
from *8° to *4° C (**0° to **0° F). Chemically, petrolatum is a
mixture of hydrocarbons, chiefly of the paraffin series.
In industry, petrolatum acts as a lubricant for machinery. Today,
we also use it to relieve diaper rash, heal raw noses and soothe
chapped lips.
