The anti-nutrition of xylan

Xylan is contained commonly in a variety of feed materials, like wheat, rye, rye-wheat, corn, soybean meal, etc.

It causes a high viscosity in the intestinal tract so as to prevent digestive absorption of the protein and fat.

Definition of content

One unit of xylanase activity is defined as the amount of enzyme that liberates 1 micromole of reducing sugar per minute from 5.0 mg/mL of xylan at pH5.5 and 37 degrees centigrade.

Xylanase Function

(1)  Degrades xylan, reduces the viscosity of chyme in the intestinal tract.

(2)  Breaks down the structure of the cell wall and eliminates any anti-nutritional factors, thus improving the digestion efficiency of nutrient substances.

(3) Improves metabolization energy of feedstuff, lowers the cost of feed by improving the quality of feedstuff.

(4) Eliminates inhibition caused by xylan to endogenous enzyme, prevents compensatory hypertrophy of digestive organ. 

(5) Generates a large number of xylo-oligosaccharides, improves the intestinal microflora which improves overall animal health.
