Applications: ZnS in the past was a very imporyant high index material because it can be evaporated easily from resistively heated boat. It was e.g. for interferce filters in the visible range and in large quantities for cold light mirrors. since ZnS films are rather soft as compared with oxide film, ZnS was replaced by TiO2 and other oxides in many applications. today ZnS is used mainly for IR applications, for holographic applications and decorative coatings. ZnS is also an interesting material for production of electro luminesent thin film devices.
