Product Description

We are now in a position to offer the very best organic, fair trade, and sustainable cocoa in the Pacific. We are selling very limited quantities (by world standards) of BioKoko Authentic Samoan Cocoa from private farms on the Islands of Sava'i and 'Upolu in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.  Cocoa orchards are concentrated in the rain shadows along the northwest coasts of both ‘Upolu and Savai’I islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Samoan cocoa has been continuously cultivated for more than **0 years since it was first planted by German settlers (Samoa was once a German colony).  Samoan cocoa once had the high status of ICCO Annex 3 “Fine and Flavourful”, and had reputation of having the highest level of cocoa butter in the world.

Despite these advantages, the Samoan cocoa industry was virtually destroyed by devastating natural disasters. These included Cyclone Ofa in February ***0 and Cyclone Val in December ***1, the latter being the most devastating cyclone to hit the country in a century. This was compounded by the negative impact of a period of low world cocoa prices and drought.  Throughout the last twenty years, however, a strong domestic market has sustained the knowledge of cocoa cultivation.

Now Samoan cocoa is ready for a comeback. Samoa's high quality may be due to the unique soil composition of Samoa's cocoa growing areas. The northwest rain-shadowed coast of both islands experiences marked dry seasons; trees seemingly grow out of rocks. Almost no mechanization is possible, even walking is difficult. Land is difficult to clear, but once established, cocoa trees on the lava flow thrive on the weed-free environment, where their own leaves cover the earth so their feet stay cool.

We can supply up to two tonnes of this product per month at the present time.  You can buy this product in *2.5kg bags.
