DESCRIPTION: The PVC impact modifiers are acrylic copolymers (ACR) with a core-shell structure, their cores are acrylic ester and shell are methacrylic copolymers. The basic functions of our impact modifiers are to improve the impact performance of PVC products to meet the requirements of engineering plastics and simultaneously increase their heat and light stability. For satisfying the requirements of different customers, we developed different types of ACR with different performance. WORKING MECHANISM : Owing to molecules of PVC are polar molecules with strong intermolecular force, so PVC is a polymer with higher glass temperature and higher tension strength, other general plastics. This is one of the advantages of PVC, but the relative motion between PVC molecules is very difficult due to strong intermolecular force. Thus, when PVC products are subjected to impact of outside force, the impact energy could not be transferred into heat by intermolecular friction, resulting in breaking of PVC materials. For improving the impact performance of PVC, impact modifiers are used to fill into PVC blend. At present, the CPE impact modifier is very popular in China. In process, CPE disperses into PVC to form a “sea-island” structure in which the PVC is compared to sea and the CPE grains are compared to island. Furthermore some linear CPE molecules exist in PVC phase and some PVC molecules exist in CPE phase. When the temperature is higher than the glass temperature of CPE(**0℃), the CPE existing with grains form can increase the low temperature impact strength, and the CPE existing in molecules can decrease the intermolecular force of PVC to reduce the Vicat softening point , resulting in the better toughness and also the impact strength increase is worse. Besides every CPE gain contains a large amount of linear CPE molecules twined together, so the CPE is difficult to disperse into PVC under molecule state, that is why the impact effect of CPE is not so good as ACR. The grain of impact ACR is formed by aggregation of elastic balls of acrylate with low crosslinkage degree, the elastic balls with a diameter of **0mm in ACR grain are not twined together as linear molecules of CPE. Therefore, under process conditions of using high-speed blender and extruder, the ACR grains whose diameter is between 0.1mm and 0.4mm are easy to evenly disperse in acrylate elastic balls of **0mm size to form “sea-island” phase structure, in which acrylate elastic balls form the “island-phase” and PVC forms the “sea-phase”. When impacted by external force, those elastic balls will deform and induce to generate silver-craze and shear-band to absorb impact energy, and the impact strength is increased by this way. APPLICATION It can be widely used in PVC products such as PVC pipe, PVC profile, PVC fitting, PVC board and PVC sheet. Its main function is to enhance impact strength and surface.
